First off, I just want to say it’s great to be back blogging about the Yankees. I took a year and a half off due to not really having time to keep up with the blog, but it’s something I love doing, so I’m going to make time.
If this is your first time reading, welcome to Pinstripe Passion. This is my forum to discuss my favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. In addition to being a life long Yankee fan I am also a life long baseball fan; it’s the greatest game in the world.
We are now in September which means autumn, football, and oh yeah, pennant race baseball!
The Yanks entered September on Sunday eight games out of first place and three and a half back in the Wild Card, and as of Sept. 3, they are currently two and a half games out.
Now, as much as I’d love to think that Soriano, Cano, and the gang will turn it around and carry us into first place, I’m realistic and I don’t think it’s going to happen. The chances of that happening are very slim, but with seven games left against the AL East leading Red Sox, it still is mathematically possible. Luck just has to be on their side.
Before anyone, including myself, gets too carried away we need to just focus on the Wild Card.
Play today; win today. That is the mentality that the Yankees need to have right now because time is running out.
Look on the bright side though; for the first time all year we finally have a Major League team on the field. With the recent returns of Jeter, A-Rod, and Granderson, plus the acquisition of Soriano back at the trade deadline, the Yankees best shot to make a run is right now!
A month ago I would have told you the team was done after being swept by the White Sox, a team with eighty losses, in Chicago. But with a new month brings a new outlook for the Yankees and fans alike.
It is time to play every game like it’s a playoff game and the bottom line is to just get in. Forget winning the division, while still possible, it shouldn’t be the primary focus right now.
Play today; win today. Just get in…
